Mgahinga Gorilla Safari to the National Park which sits high in the clouds, at an altitude of between 2,227m and 4,127m. As its name suggests, it was created to protect the rare mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests, and it is also an important habitat for the endangered golden monkey.
Day 1: Kampala-Mgahinga National park
Breakfast, be picked from your residence and drive or fly to Mgahinga National park. It is 33.7sq kms and is tucked in the south-western part of Uganda, Bufumbira County, Kisoro district in the Virunga ranges.
Three redundant volcanoes make up the part of the Virunga ranges. The tallest of the three is Mountain Muhavura 4127 metres above sea level, mountain Gahinga 3474 metres above sea level, mountain Sabinyo, 3669 metres above sea level. Wildlife found in the National park includes Guereza colobus and golden (blue) monkey, Caruther’s mountain, Boehm’s and Rwenzori sun squirrels, buffaloes, Bushbuck, Elephants, Serval cat, Side-striped jackal, honey badger and striped weasel among others. You will have lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight at the lodge
Day 2: Gorilla tracking
Breakfast, go for gorilla tracking. The only group to be tracked is the Nyakagezi comprising of 2 silverbacks, four juveniles and infants and 3 adult females. Depending on the tracking time taken you can either have picnic lunch or lunch at the lodge. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Mgahinga-Kampala
Early breakfast, drive or fly back to Kampala. You will have lunch and a few stopovers en-route. You will be dropped off at a place of your choice in Kampala or at the airport.
