FLYING SAFARI: Katavi and Mahale Mountains
TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: leave Arusha
Leave Arusha at 8:00am in a shared charter to Katavi national park. This flight will take you almost 3 hours-Limited luggage allowance of 15kg per person. On arrival you will have a game drive to the camp through open pans and Miombo woodlands. Reach Chada Katavi in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and retire for dinner and overnight at Chada Katavi camp.
Day 2: Katavi National Park
Full day in Katavi with game drives for excellent wildlife encounters. Elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala and reedbuck provide lion; spotted hyena may be some of the animals you will view. All meals and overnight at the Chada Katavi camp.
Day 3: to Mahale mountains
You will get on a scheduled flight to Mahale Mountains after breakfast. You will be transferred by boat from the airstrip to a camp on the shores of the lake. Enjoy the lake shores either relaxing in the camp or snorkeling. Dinner and overnight at the Greystoke Mahale camp.
Day 4&5: chimpanzee tracking
For these 2 days activities will centre on the Mahale Mountains. Go for treks in the mountains where you will encounter over 1000 wild chimpanzees. Some groups are habituated and will give you opportunities for photography. Spend your spare time enjoying the Greystoke Mahale where you will dine and lodge for two days.
Day 6: departure
Have breakfast and relax while you await the 13:40 scheduled flight back to Arusha. End of trip or onward journey on request, subject to a surcharge.
